Motus Network in Ireland- Feasibility Study

The Motus wildlife tracking system is an international collaborative research network currently involving 34 countries, that uses automated radio telemetry to study the movement and migrations of small volant species. There is a growing network of Motus stations in the UK, including the Isle of Mann and the Southwest Peninsula. However, there remains no such stations on the island of Ireland.

We aim to determine whether the establishment of a Motus network in Ireland would be possible to study the potential migration of radio-tagged bats, and other small volant animals such as passerine birds and small seabirds, to inform ongoing offshore wind farm development plans. This will be achieved by conducting a desk-based feasibility study for the establishment of a Motus network on Irish soil.

This project is a collaborative effort between ATU, Bat Conservation Ireland, Bird Watch Ireland and MARÉIRE
