Anita Talbot works as a Senior Research Fellow at the MFRC with focusing on the prevention of disease in fish. Projects include investigating novel ingredients in feed and how they can influence the fish immune response. Diseases of interest include infections caused by external parasites in salmon, including Paramoeba perurans, the causative agent of amoebic gill disease (AGD) and the sea louse Lepeophtheirus salmonis. More recently, Dr Talbot’s focus on disease prevention is through the development and testing of vaccines to protect against bacterial and viral infections in freshwater and marine finfish species. This work is funded in equal part through Ireland’s EU Structural Funds programme (ESIF) and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).
