eDNA monitoring of Arctic char

Environmental DNA (eDNA) detection of Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) in Irish lakes

The main goal of this project is to develop and apply an environmental DNA (eDNA) protocol for the detection and monitoring of declining Irish Arctic char (<i>Salvelinus alpinus</i>). This project has seen the participation of several students, academics and researchers since its first iteration in 2015 and it has recently resulted in a peer-reviewed publication on an international journal dedicated to the emerging application of environmental DNA (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/edn3.60). Financial support for this project has been received from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and the Marine (DAFM) and the Genetic Resources Grant Aid Scheme (GRGAS 15/GR/15. 16/GR/12).
