Dr Sara Fernandez Fernandez

Postdoctoral researcher

I hold a PhD in Molecular and Celular Biology from the University of Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. My research was focused on the use of environmental DNA (eDNA) tools to study rivers connectivity. My research interests are the application of molecular tools in biodiversity and environmental conservation. I joined MFRC in 2019 within Marine Invasive Species Ireland (MISI) project aiming at establishing a tool kit to monitor non indigenous species around Irish coast.

Environmental DNA/RNA metabarcoding for monitoring marine biodiversity in Galway Bay, with particular attention to marine Invasive Alien Species (AIS)

The goal of this project is set up a set of novel tools for the detection and monitoring of marine invasive species in Irish coastal waters. This project is funded by the European Maritime Fisheries Fund (EMFF).
