White-Clawed Crayfish CULLEN scholarship

Population genetics of the Irish White-Clawed Crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes) using traditional and non-invasive eDNA methods and investigation into potential resistance to the crayfish plague pathogen Aphanomyces astaci

This is a 4-years (2026-2030) PhD Cullen Scholarship funded by the Marine Institute (CS/25/002). The recipient of this scholarship is Ms Jessie-Lee Langel, who will be supervised by Dr Orla Slattery (ATU), Dr Luca Mirimin (ATU) and Ms Bogna Griffin (MI).

The main objectives of this project are to conduct population genetic analyses of Irish WCC populations, assist monitoring of species by means of eDNA analysis, and investigate the immune response to the crayfish plague pathogen.
