Morena Gaudino

I completed my BSc (Hons) in Applied freshwater and marine biology (2019 – 2023) at the Atlantic Technological University Galway. My undergraduate research project investigated The effect of spring tides on the abundance of microplastics in intertidal sediments.

Following my degree, I worked at the Marine Institute as the Water Framework Directive laboratory technician in the Chemistry Department. In this role, I contributed to a wide range of field and laboratory activities supporting Ireland’s Water Framework Directive monitoring programmes.

I am currently pursuing a PhD at the Marine and Freshwater Research Centre (MFRC), researching the impact of extreme weather on plastic pollution in intertidal and estuarine environments. This project is funded by the RISE@ATU programme which aims to strengthen research and innovation across Ireland’s Northern and Western Regions.

My research interests include marine contaminants, meteorology, and habitat ecology. I also have a strong interest in science communication and stakeholder engagement.
