I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Science from TU Dublin (former DIT, Kevin Street), and with a PhD (Immunology) from Trinity College Dublin. I completed a two year post-doctoral research study into innate immune mechanisms in colon cancer in the Education & Research Centre at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. I was employed as a lecturer in Biochemistry at NUI Galway before joining the Department of Biopharmaceutical & Medical Science Medical Science at GMIT in 2008. My research interests are in innate immunity, antimicrobial peptides, salmon fish health, bioactivity in seaweeds, tissue culture, green labs initiative
