Baseline Biodiversity Study, Dowth

Baseline Biodiversity Study, Dowth

In the summer of 2024, a number of ecological surveys were carried out at Dowth Hall and Demesne (Co. Meath), a property purchased by the Irish State in 2023 for the purpose of establishing a new National Park, the Boyne Valley (Brú na Bóinne) National Park. The primary aim of the surveys was to collect baseline information on biodiversity and to provide recommendations for long-term monitoring at the site. Field surveys were carried out for selected groups of pollinating insects, primarily butterflies and moths, and for birds. Extended autonomous surveys were carried out for terrestrial mammals using camera traps, and for birds and bats using passive acoustic monitoring. The project was funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
