Signe Martin

I completed my BSc in Applied Freshwater and Marine Biology at GMIT in 2018 which peaked my interest in the effects that disease and parasites can have on valuable marine species. I am currently working as a Cullen Scholar on a Marine Institute funded project (2019-2023) conducted in collaboration with Fish Vet Group and the University of Glasgow. My project aims to evaluate the disease status of velvet crab in Galway Bay. Internal parasites often go undetected until an issue arises and velvet crab yields have recently been reported to be in decline with several microparasites found infecting these crustaceans. I aim to investigate these microparasites in order to assess their impact on commercial crustacean species.
